The European Union has released figures showing that 1,840,307 visitors from the UK holidayed in Turkey in 2007, a 14.58 per cent increase from 2006.

Sermin Ozduran, Director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in the UK, told BreakingTravelnews.com: “These figures demonstrate that Turkey is a year-round destination offering something for everyone, from adventurous family holidays to bespoke cultural tours, every visitor can choose from a wide range of experiences.

"[These include] visiting the ancient remains of many civilizations, indulgent spa treatments, relaxing in our natural hot springs, or seeking out Turkey's wildlife."

Total tourism income in Turkey has increased by 6.5 per cent this year compared to 2006, bringing in £7.04 billion in revenue for the first nine months of 2007.
