Turkey’s free zones increase trade figures

The Foreign Trade Under secretariat has released figures showing that trade volume in free zones in Turkey has increased by 14 percent to $11.1 billion in the first five months of 2008 when compared to the same period of 2007.

The Istanbul Leather Free Zone exported $2.5 billion of products, while the Aegean Free Zone exported $1.7 billion and Istanbul-AHL $1.3 billion in the first five months of 2007.

A large proportion of trade through free zones in this period was made to OECD and European Union countries with $4.1 billion of trade.
