RAK Airways set to double their fleet size over the next year

Although it is not as well-known as UAE neighbours Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah is showing continual signs of development.

In summary:

  • Fleet size will have doubled by November 2013
  • Domestic flights to Abu Dhabi will begin on October 3
  • The airline have signed a code share with Ethiad Airways

Not only are property prices and tourism numbers increasing in Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Airways are now set to double their fleet size over the next year, adding flights from RAK to Abu Dhabi.

Chief Executive Officer John Brayford says that this will help the emirate to explore more markets and increase the frequency of flights. The airline will get its third aircraft delivery March and a fourth in November next year.

A domestic service to Abu Dhabi will begin early next month for DH410 for a return with the journey taking around 45 minutes.

Brayford added: “We are proud to be the first UAE flag carrier scheduled domestic carrier.

“Initially, there will be four flights per week and then daily from December 12 and double daily from March 13, 2013.”

He predicts that the third aircraft will help to double the daily flights to the capital whilst the fourth will enable the airline to double the number of flights.

RAK Airways has also enlisted the help of Abu Dhabi’s Ethiad Airways to enable them to reach international destinations via a code share agreement which will enable Ethiad to place its EY code on RAK’s Ras Al Khaimah to Abu Dhabi flight and RAK to place its RT code on Ethiad’s five international routes to London, Manchester, Dublin, Bangkok and Geneva.

Brayford added: “We hope to add Germany and the US shortly and agreed that we would not compete with Etihad.

“We believe in putting the customer at the centre of everything we do and, with this exciting partnership, we are able to offer residents of Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah a much wider choice of destinations and also, for the first time, a direct link to the capital city, Abu Dhabi.”

RAK Airways have already started booking the international flights and, like the other aspects of the emirate, the airline looks like it is to continue expanding in the future.
