A construction contract has been awarded to build a second terminal at Hurghada airport.

The new terminal, expected to take 36 months to construct, forms part of expansion plans to increase Hurghada’s airports capacity from its current 5.6 to 13 million passengers per year.

Medhat Hendawi, chairman of the Egyptian Airport Company said:

“The new terminal will consist of two arrival and departure halls as well as a transit hall; it is designed to accommodate up to 20 aircraft at any one time. It is planned to serve 11 aircraft through the tubes and 9 more remote aircraft,” Hendawi added. The new terminal constructions will cover 91,500 square metres. A new tarmac and four-kilometre long runway will be part of this phase as well.

This is positive news for property owners in the region set to benefit from increased accessibility to their homes as well as the potential for increased rental yields as a result of rising tourist numbers. It is believed that the new terminal will help boost Hurghada’s annual tourist numbers from 6.7 million to 7.5 million.
