Bulgaria step up trade and forestry cooperation with Vietnam
Opportunities for cooperation in trade and forestry between Vietnam and Bulgaria were tabled for discussion at a meeting between officials from the two countries on May 13th.
In the meeting with the Head of the State Forestry Agency of Bulgaria and Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development numerous opportunities for trade were discussed. Items that Vietnam is able to import from Bulgaria include wheat, breeds of chicken, veterinary medicines, insecticides, urea fertilizer and farming machinery. The Vietnamese suggested a plan to build joint ventures in Bulgaria to process and distribute coffee, tea and tinned fruits to Bulgaria.
In recognising the importance of forests to both their countries, they discussed the potential to set up a flexible cooperation mechanism in the interest of both countries. Forest coverage has increased in Vietnam to 39 percent in 2007 from 28 percent in 1995 due to the commitment in planting new trees leading to environmental and economic benefits.
