About Marrakech
'In the same way that Dubai is the jewel in the crown of the Middle East, Marrakech is the jewel in the crown of Morocco. It already has much of the infrastructure in place, a recently developed airport and sustainable tourist numbers.'
Successfully combining its traditional heritage with contemporary living, Marrakech offers residents and visitors the best of the old and the new. The fusion of cultures and traditions has led to a rich and varied city, attracting a growing number of visitors each year.
Situated only 4km north of the International airport, Marrakech has a wide range of accommodation and attractions. The Medina walls surround the old town of Marrakech, with bustling souks, snake charmers and Moroccan cuisine served from traditional stands in the old square.
A stroll west of the Medina brings you to area known as the ‘Ville Noveau’ which offers a more cosmopolitan feel. Five star hotel and bars, Portuguese and French restaurants, Lebanese shisha bars and boutique shops line the wide, palm tree shaded pavements.
East of the city is home to some of Morocco’s most exclusive residences. Overlooking the Atlas Mountains, the eastern suburbs offer a wide choice of activities, with easy access to the city, ski resorts and golf courses.
Expect the unexpected…
Golf
Year round sunshine, high quality greens and an easy airport commute; Marrakech has everything the avid golfer could care for. With 5 courses to be completed by 2009, Marrakech will take a prominent spot in a golfer’s diary. Only a three and a half hour flight and with just 1 hour time difference, long golfing weekends in Marrakech are popular with many Europeans.
Skiing
It’s not what you would expect from Africa but Morocco does have a successful ski season. The high Atlas Mountains are the most popular destination and the ski season usually lasts from December to March. Mountain biking and trekking are two of the most popular year round activities taking place in the beautiful Atlas Mountains.
