Valentines Day tourists choose Morocco
Morocco is becoming increasingly popular with couples who choose to spend St Valentines Day abroad, according to experts. A large cumber of couples were taking city breaks abroad to mark the occasion, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO).
Established destinations closer to home were said to remain popular options but the organisation has revealed that more distant locations in places such as Africa is also attracting interest from Britons. A spokesperson for AITO that an example of a popular long-haul destination is the Moroccan city of Marrakech.
He commented: "Marrakech is doing quite well - it's just slightly longer than a city break and people don't have to take much time off [work]."
This further reinforces the country's emergence as a popular holiday destination, which may potentially encourage people to invest in Morocco ’s property. According to official figures, tourist numbers in Marrakech have risen by 11 per cent in the last year.
