Turkey to join Kyoto Protocol
The Turkish Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission has adopted a bill to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, a global climate pact led by the United Nations on cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
The bill, which sees Turkey joining the protocol, will come into effect after being ratified by the Turkish parliament.
The protocol was agreed upon by governments at a 1997 UN conference in Kyoto, Japan, in order to reduce greenhouse gases emitted by developed countries to at least 5 percent below 1990 levels by 2008-2012.
