Projects for development include a large wildlife reserve that is planned at Hulayla, South of the port; Jazeera al Hamra, a site that was inhabited as early as 2000BC, which will be bought and preserved as a traditional village and a new creek through the old city which will offer new spaces for waterside living, shopping and recreation.
Two new industrial zones will also be created. Al Ghail with a mix of light and medium industry, and heavy industry going near Saqr Port where quarries and cement factories are already located.
