Bodrum Landmark

Bodrum has a rich past; from the invasion of the Persians in 546 BC, through to the Roman and Ottoman eras, the city has witnessed many important events of ancient history which have left behind plenty of fascinating legacies to be explored.

Travelling into the centre of Bodrum, you’re struck by the spectacular shadows cast by the Castle of St. Peter. This is a must-see attraction boasting a riveting blend of ancient and modern behind the imposing stone walls. Whether it’s viewed from land or sea, Bodrum’s famous castle is an iconic figure of medieval architecture.

Don’t forget your camera when you visit Bodrum Amphitheatre. This historic structure is accredited to the reign of King Mausolus, although it wasn’t fully completed until the Roman era. Situated on the hillside overlooking the resort, the theatre has been diligently restored and today houses the September Festival. The fantastic architecture is a perfect photo opportunity.

Step back in time when you visit one of the seven wonders of the ancient world! The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus is Bodrum’s oldest and most significant antiquity. Built by Artemisia II in honour of her husband King Mausolos, the word “mausoleum” was derived from his name.

Another Bodrum wonder is on show at The Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Discover the enchanting story of The Shipwreck of Uluburun. After this famous ship set sail from Cyprus, the vessel sank at Besadalar. The wreck was laden with intricate gold jewellery, ceramics, ivory and bronze weapons from thousands of years ago and these fascinating artefacts are displayed at the museum for all to admire.
