Turkey-Greece Investment Boost
Bilateral trade between Turkey and Greece has exceeded 2.2 billion euros and are expected to reach 5 billion euros, the Greek ambassador to Turkey said yesterday at a press conference in Istanbul. The press conference was to highlight the release of a documentary on the Turkish-Greek economic relations, which will screen tonight at the consulate in the presence of businessmen from the two countries.
“If you said 15 years ago that trade would have reached close to $3 billion, people would have laughed,” said prominent journalist, Mehmet Ali Birand, the producer of the documentary. Referring to the good climate between the two countries “we have reached a point where Greece is not a news item for the Turkish media and this is good news. No news is good news,” said Birand.
Between 2002-2006, trade between Turkey and Greece has increased 114 per cent, while investment from Greece of 2.8 billion have out the country in fourth position as far as direct investment in Turkey is concerned.
