Turkey prepares Istanbul to be European Capital of Culture
The Garanti Contemporary Art Centre and the Garanti Gallery are to be renovated and converted into a multi-functional culture centre. The 116-year old building in Istanbul, Turkey is one of several historic buildings being redesigned as part of a huge renovation programme as Istanbul prepares to be the European Capital of Culture in 2010. The aim is to make Istanbul a city of art for 2010.
The Garanti Bank, one of Turkey's largest banks, has begun redesigning art centres at three of their buildings as part of the changes. The top of the historic Garanti Art Centre will feature a restaurant and café giving a full 360 degree view of the historic centre of Istanbul.
