Turkey's EU membership a global peace project
According to Ali Babacan, the Turkish Foreign Minister and Chief European Union negotiator, Turkey’s full membership to the EU would be one of the greatest global peace projects of the 21st century.
Attending a forum on the "Educational Right and Perspectives to Future" organized by Turkish Education Association (TED) in Ankara, Babacan said that improved relations with the EU was a major foreign policy target for Turkey. A total of 229 meetings have been held during Turkey’s negotiation process with the EU and there have been 46 visits paid to various EU countries in the last 5 months.
"EU process has become a part of Turkey's daily life," Babacan said. "Turkey will say 'I am ready' by the year 2013. We will all see how EU will be ready for Turkey by then," Babacan said.
