Turkey’s hopes for election to International Atomic Energy Agency
Turkey is likely to be elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in elections that will be held during the ongoing annual assembly of the international body in Vienna.
During the general conference, elections will be held for 11 members of the 35 member board of governors whose terms have ended. Turkey is hoping to be elected to the board for a two-year term from the group for Western Europe.
At the ‘Atoms for Peace’ event in 1957 the agency was set up within the United Nations. The agency works with its member states and multiple partners worldwide to promote safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technology.
