Bulgaria Transport Ministry has signed three contracts worth more than 200 million euro, which will help the development of the state railways. The first contract is for the reconstruction and electrification of the railway connecting Svilengrad and Plovdiv. To be completed within 39 months, Italian company Astaldi won the tender for the project worth nearly 163 million euro.
The second project is for the whole Plovdiv-Svilengrad railway track and has been assigned to the Austrian Thales Rail Signalling and Alkatel-Lucent. The project, worth 35.56 million euro will be complete by March 31 2008. Spanish company Iberinsa will undertake the modernisation of the Vidin-Sofia rail way. This €3.35 million project will be complete in 2 years.
Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev commented that the three projects will aid Bulgaria’s railways integration into the European railway system and make the local railway service more competitive and safer
