Turkey welcomes Eid al-Adha

On the first day of Eid al-Adha, Islam's most important four-day religious holiday, millions in Turkey travel to spend time with family members and loved ones. A Common greeting during this holiday is the Arabic greeting "Eid mubarak," (May your Eid be blessed).

Eid al-Adha is seen as a time of year when Turks socialize and reunite with friends and family, creating a joyful atmosphere across the country with solidarity between relatives, neighbours and strangers, with communities remembering the needs of the poor and less fortunate.

Turkish leaders including President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan issued holiday greetings on Sunday to mark the beginning of Eid al-Adha.
