Ras Al Khaimah has been recently chosen by the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, as the best location for their campus in the United Arab Emirates. This project will bring research opportunities for the development of alternative energy sources for Ras Al Khaimah. A spokesman for the university, Jernome Grosse, also stated that solar energy is another important topic for the Emirate to consider in order for it to diversify.
The Federal Institute of Technology will split the ownership of the campus with Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority, the Emirate’s investment arm. Grosse also stated that the university’s small post-graduate program is scheduled to begin by the end of 2009, with students interested in the master’s degree to be enrolled by 2010. Other major institutions to setup learning centres in the UAE include Harvard University, Sorbonne and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
