Turkey to see $8 bn investment in power production

Turkey’s Sabanci Holding and Austrian utility Verbund’s venture, Enerjisa, will be investing a total of $8 billion in power production. The venture also plans to use these funds to purchase more power distribution grids in Turkey .

Enerjisa will purchase a state-run network for $1.225 billion in the capital city of Ankara, which will enable the company to double its clientele.

Turkey’s electricity demand in 2008 grew by 3.5 percent annually. The chairman of Enerjisa, Selahattin Hakman states that the demand for electricity is expected to grow significantly by 2010.
