Rakeen, master developer of Ras Al Khaimah’s man-made Al Marjan Island, has announced major infrastructure work is to commence next month on phase two of the $1 billion project.
Italian engineering company Rizzani will undertake the work on islands 3 and 4 of the four island cluster development to include hard and soft landscaping, provisions for utilities, drainage and telecommunications along with channel crossings and installation of street lighting and fire fighting systems.
Infrastructure work on phase 1, comprising the peninsular and islands 1 and 2, is also well underway. In an interview with Construction Week, Fawzi Shadid, infrastructure director at Rakeen revealed:
“Infrastructure work for phase one of the development is progressing and work is about to start on the second phase. The expected completion date is 2012”.
He added that Bab Al Bahr, Rakeen’s residential and commercial project on Al Marjan would be complete by 2010.
Al Marjan Island is set to become the first man-made island in Ras Al-Khaimah and will boast hotels, water villas and marinas as well as world class leisure facilities. It is home to the award winning Pacific development, a luxury beachfront residential complex situated in prime location on the top island.
