Dubai is a favoured tourist destination for many Brits with the continual bright weather, clear sea and white sandy beaches but it’s not just your average holidaymaker that wants to head to the emirate, Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand has recently been spotted in Dubai.
The arrival of the sportsman is said to have caused a bit of a stir in the emirate with both residents and the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) especially since it is hoped that sporting opportunities will further boost the already thriving tourism industry in Dubai.
Ferdinand was welcomed by the DTCM’s Executive Director of Business Tourism, Hamad M Bin Mejren and the star offered a signed Manchester United shirt to the organisation.
Bin Mejren commented: “The emirate hosts outstanding and famous players and clubs from all over the world, and sports tourism plays an important role in attracting tourists to the country.”
He added that the department have continually been in support of sport-related activities and hosting celebrity sports people as it aids the promotion of sports tourism in the emirate with Ferdinand being just one of a number of footballers who have visited Dubai.
Rio travelled to Dubai with his wife and was apparently happy to be in the warm Dubai sun as opposed to the cold wintery conditions in the UK. The star is said to have stayed at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on the Palm Jumeirah, the same hotel that was recently used by X-Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger to film the judges’ houses stage of the singing competition.
