Vita Student at First Street, a £25million project that provides hotel standard accommodation to Manchester’s students, has today been granted planning permission. The innovative scheme, which comprises of 279 luxurious self-contained apartments and a 5,400sqft student hub which includes a gym, retail unit and gaming area, will be the only student accommodation of its kind in the city when completed in August 2014.
Forming part of the prestigious £500m First Street development, the Vita Student project will be located adjacent to Number One First Street, offering students a great base in the city, close to Manchester’s universities, central library, shops and bars, and highly accessible by all forms of public transport.
The development is the fourth to be created by Vita Student, a premium student property brand directed by the management teams behind the award-winning luxury developer, Huntsmere, and Wilmslow-based investment property specialist, Select Property.
In agreeing to the scheme consideration was given to the existing volume of student accommodation in Manchester, however it was felt that Vita Student brings something new and unique to the city and its students, filling a gap in the market.
Mark Stott, CEO of Select Property, commented: “There is a growing need for high quality accommodation in Manchester, predominantly driven by international students. With the city home to over 13,000 students from overseas, there is a huge demand that is not being met. Vita Student addresses this demand by delivering luxury, high spec accommodation that currently doesn’t exist.”
The scheme has been designed by the Manchester office of 5plus Architects and embodies the practices’ ethos to deliver buildings that are not only beautiful but incredibly efficient to build.
The facade disguises the uniformity of the development and the design allows a generous and welcoming ground and first floor area for occupiers as well as connecting with the public realm.
