Michael Owen announced his love for Dubai this week after a short trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Earlier this week, the recently-retired footballer took to his Twitter account to reveal his break, saying: “Just boarded the plane. Dubai and back in 34 hours.”
He headed to Dubai to speak at an event last night (May 21st) to celebrate Arabian Business’ Brits Power List, which honours Britons living in the UAE who are particularly influential.
Among these top 50 important people was Tim Clark, President of the Emirates Airline, who retired from his post earlier this year.
He began his career at Emirates when it launched in 1985 and took it to become the airline with the greatest passenger traffic following his promotion to President in 2003.
The event took place at JW Dubai Marquis hotel and earlier in the day Owen tweeted that he was enjoying the sunshine and relaxing by the swimming pool while practicing his lines for the speech.
On his return to the UK, he tweeted his fans again, saying: “Done and dusted. At the airport heading home. I love Dubai.”
The former England player has been keeping busy following the announcement of his retirement from the sport in March. During his career, he scored 40 goals for England, as well as 179 for Liverpool FC, 19 for CF Real Madrid, 30 for Newcastle United FC, 17 for Manchester United and 1 for Stoke City.
