Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, yesterday (11th September 2014) officially opened an exciting new student residence located at First Street, Manchester. The residence is the flagship project from Cheshire-headquartered Vita Student and goes far beyond the existing provision of purpose-built accommodation in the city.
Sir Howard was joined at the opening by Patrick Vieira, Manager of Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, and two of the players.
All of the 279 studio apartments are fully occupied and students will begin arriving at the residence this weekend, with around 70% of the residents coming from overseas, predominantly from Asia and Europe.
The launch of the £25 million, 11-storey residence is a major milestone for the prominent 20-acre First Street regeneration development in the city centre as it is the first time an established community will be present at the mixed-use site. Auto Trader relocated 600 staff to the site in May, while it is due to become the location of the £25 million arts complex HOME next year.
The apartments at First Street are the epitome of stylish accommodation, and the communal facilities include a fully-equipped gymnasium and state-of-the-art social hub space. The core of Vita Student’s ethos, and what ultimately distinguishes it from other student accommodation, is the exceptional level of customer service it is dedicated to providing.
Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council, said: “The First Street area is establishing itself as a vibrant new part of a growing Manchester city centre and a magnet for development. Vita’s investment is a great example of this and it is no surprise that it is already proving a sought-after place to be, located as it is in the heart of this emerging area and close to the Oxford Road corridor. I’d like to wish both Vita Student and all of its residents a warm Mancunian welcome.”
Vita Student is part of Select Property Group. CEO of The Group, Mark Stott, commented: “The academic excellence of Manchester is renowned the world over and the number of students flocking to the city means that there is a real demand for high-quality, purpose-built accommodation.
“First Street is a fantastic location and the mixed-use nature of the scheme is perfect for our residents who want to experience true city-centre living while also enjoying a real community feel.
“We’re passionate about treating students as the valued customers they are and this is evident across every aspect of our operation. From our policy to recruit our residence team from the hospitality industry, to the social and community events we hold and our customer charter which sets out operational frameworks in regards to repairs and maintenance.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming our residents from around the world this weekend and giving them an unforgettable living experience during their time with us.”
Vita Student has long been connected with Manchester City, with the provider being the official sponsor of the football team’s season launch party, City Live, for the past two years.
During September 2014, Vita Student is launching four further student residences across the UK in key university cities such as Exeter, Bristol and Liverpool. The provider has just under 1,000 studio apartments, all of which are 100% occupied for the upcoming academic year. Over the next couple of years new residences will be opened in Sheffield and Newcastle.
