- Dubai named as a top holiday destination in one of the busiest aviation weeks of the year
- Emirates expects to carry 23% more passengers today than it did on the corresponding date in 2013
- The growth of Dubai’s tourism economy is fuelling further property investment
Dubai has been adjudged one of the top holiday destinations for travellers looking to get away over the festive period.
The busiest day for international travel is today (December 19th) with 129,000 people flying and British Airways says Dubai, Barbados, New York, Australia and Barcelona are the most popular destinations.
British Airways alone believes that between December 12th and January 5th it will carry over 2.7 million customers with a total of 267 flights taking off on Christmas Day alone. Currently, British Airways operates three daily flights to London Heathrow to Dubai, while it also offers two daily return flights.
Dubai-based Emirates is also preparing for one of its busiest weeks of the year, as people head home or abroad to celebrate with friends and family. The airline stated that it will carry more than 80,000 people today across 240 flights. This is an increase of almost 23% from the figures recorded last year.
Figures from Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing show that in the first half of 2014, 5.82 million tourists checked into the emirate’s 634 hotels and hotel apartments – this represents a 2.3% rise over the same period in 2013.
The total first half revenues for hotels increased almost 11% to reach 12.74 billion AED. The amount of money that tourists bring to the emirate and increase in tourist numbers has led to a new wave of property investment in Dubai. Investors are assured that not only will their apartments let, they will also continue to see capital growth in an expanding economy.
