As traditional pastimes meet modern attractions, here are some of the best things to see, do & visit in Ras Al Khaimah for holidaymakers & property owners.
Fancy a day at a breathtaking waterpark or an early morning spent watching an enthralling spectacle of camel racing?
We’ve recently been putting Ras Al Khaimah under the spotlight, the UAE’s northern most emirate and rapidly emerging tourism hotspot. Nestled between the Arabian Gulf and the Hajar mountains, it offers a picturesque setting for a beautiful holiday or second home purchase just an hour’s drive from Dubai, its bustling neighbour.
Here’s a selection of some of the best things you can see and do in the region:
Bedouin Oasis Desert Camp
Ras Al Khaimah may be a coastal location, but it is close to the desert and no visit is complete without an authentic desert experience. Enjoy a stay at the Bedouin Oasis Desert Camp and spend the night eating barbecue around a campfire, gazing up at the starry night sky in the kind of setting you could only previously have imagined in films or books. Retire to your real goat-hair tents, before spending the morning on a camel trek in the heart of the desert.
Iceland Water Park
Fun for all the family, this stunning water park offers 16 separate attractions and is like nothing you’ll have ever experienced before. This includes Mount Cyclone, a heart-stopping rollercoaster slide, the largest man-made waterfall in the world and snorkelling in a man-made coral reef complete with live fish. Break up the day by visiting one of the many on-site eateries, including a gourmet sit-down restaurant.
Ras Al Khaimah is fast becoming known for the quality of its golf facilities, welcoming both members and non-members.
Al Hamra Golf Club, again in the heart of the Al Hamra residential district, is built around four inter connected lagoons and set alongside the waves of the Persian Gulf. It took 5,000,000 m3 of sand to build the complex, which has a par 72 championship course and a comprehensive golf academy. There’s also a gym, restaurant and games room to help you unwind after your round.
The Tower Links Golf Course opened in 2005 and boasts the Hajar Mountains as a beautiful backdrop. Its academy is the perfect place for both rookies and competent golfers to brush up on their game, with PGA qualified professionals on-hand to help with your short game on the two green complexes available, whilst they will also go through your performance afterwards inside the analysis centre. The Tower Links also has a gym, spa and restaurant.
Al Sawan Camel Racing Track
The ancient sport of camel racing, popular across the Middle East and Asia, is one of the most popular pastimes in Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE. If you’re looking to witness some of the best in local culture, then a visit to the Al Sawan Camel Racing Track is not to be missed. Watch as the locals frantically place bets as rider-less camels are positioned on the starting line. With races taking place on Friday and Saturday mornings between 6.30am and 8.30am, it’s an inexpensive way to watch the sunrise whilst enjoying a truly Arabic experience.
Al Hamra Mall
This two-storey shopping centre is spread over 37,000m2 in the stunning Al Hamra residential district, perfect for visitors and local property owners. Set inside a beautifully, distinctly Arabic designed building are 100 stores offering the latest designer clothes and electronics, whilst there are a restaurants serving a range of international cuisines. In addition, you’ll also find Vox Cinemas, an eight-screen luxury complex that provides film lovers with the ultimate cinema experience.
Pacific is a luxury seafront gated community on the Al Marjan man-made island. It represents your chance to own Ras al Khaimah real estate with a private beach, health club & rooftop swimming pool.
